Why choose this as a Therapeutic Model?
“The AIP model posits that pathology results when unprocessed experiences are stored in their own neural network, unable to link up naturally with anything more adaptive. Therefore, a person may … be in therapy for years, offered constant reframes, alternatives, and examples of success, without changing the emotions involving distressing personal failures. The new information, positive experiences, and affects are unable to link into the network where the unprocessed material is stored.”
Take a look at how this model has grown into a full psychotherapeutic model.
This is a short video to give you a deeper understanding of how the AIP model can help you conceptualize your cases, your clients gain insights about their concerns and heal from past negative experiences.
Yes, EMDR treatment brings up emotions. When the clinician understands the assessment process (Stage 1) and works with the client through that stage, the client is able to tolerate and manage emotion well, which helps to 'clear out' those past negative experiences and the beliefs they hold which naturally discharges the emotions they were experiencing before the treatment.
