EMDR CONTINUING EDUCATION TRAINING
Couples therapy can be some of the most meaningful and rewarding work we do—especially when we know how to help partners move from disconnection, blame, and reactivity toward safety, accountability, and deeper connection. In this one-hour introductory training, I share key foundations for effective couples work, including the five constructs of intimate relationships, the cycle of disconnection and reconnection, and the belief systems that often prevent couples from seeing one another with love and empathy. This training offers a high-level overview of essential concepts that can immediately enrich your clinical lens, while also serving as a preview of an upcoming more in-depth 6 hour CE program designed to help you apply these principles with greater clarity, confidence, and depth in your work with couples.

This intermediate-level EMDR training is designed for licensed mental health professionals who have completed EMDR Basic Training and want to strengthen their effectiveness in working with couples.
If your EMDR work with couples feels stuck, flat, or in need of fresh direction, this training will help you bring new clarity and structure to the process.
You will learn how to de-escalate the emotional cycle, naturally engage the orienting response in the therapy room, and follow the AIP model to help couples move toward the five constructs of intimate relationships with greater connection, empathy, and stability.
This training is not designed for clinicians who have not completed EMDR Basic Training
Bring Clarity to Your Work with Couples Using an EMDR Informed Framework
A high-level introduction to EMDR-informed couples work that explores relational cycles, collaborative resourcing, target sequence planning, and readiness for processing. This one-hour training offers valuable clinical insight while serving as a gateway to my upcoming extended CE program for clinicians seeking deeper application and advanced skill development.
How EMDR applies to couples work
Understand the core EMDR mechanisms—AIP, the orienting response, and working memory—and how they inform relationship-based clinical work.
How to identify the couple’s emotional cycle
Learn to recognize the cycle of reactivity and disconnection that keeps couples stuck in blame, distress, and missed bids for connection.
How to build safety through collaborative resourcing
Discover practical, relationship-based resourcing methods that help couples strengthen co-regulation, connection, and readiness for deeper work.
How to prepare couples for processing
Gain practical guidance for target sequence planning and learn key indicators of readiness before moving into processing within the couple system.
In this one hour lecture, participants will walk away with a clearer, more confident understanding of how to apply core EMDR principles to couples therapy in a way that is practical, relational, and clinically grounded.
Participants will learn core EMDR principles needed in couples therapy. By identifying the emotional cycle, using collaborative resourcing to build safety and connection, effective target planning and recognizing when couples are ready for processing.
Integrate somatic interweaves into EMDR Phase 4 reprocessing with clarity and precision
Track activation, shutdown, and embodied cues in real time
Work skillfully with dissociation and stalled processing without destabilizing clients
Strengthen nervous system literacy to guide intervention timing
Maintain fidelity to the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model while deepening embodied integration
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
* Identify the five core constructs of intimate relationships
* Recognize the cycle of disconnection and reconnection in couples work
* Understand how anger, blame, and reactivity interfere with relational safety
* Explore the belief systems shaped by past experiences that block empathy and connection
* Help couples increase accountability, responsiveness, and emotional attunement
* Strengthen your clinical lens for guiding couples toward greater safety, repair, and closeness
* Gain a stronger conceptual foundation of where to go when barriers present in session.
This fast-moving, one-hour presentation is designed to give you practical clinical direction you can begin using immediately in your work with couples. While it is not a full-length training, you will leave with a clearer framework for recognizing relationship distress, responding more effectively in the therapy room, and supporting greater safety, connection, and readiness for deeper EMDR-informed work

This is an intermediate-to-advanced EMDR training designed for clinicians who have completed Basic Training and want to deepen their Couples/Relationship work. While grounded in foundational EMDR protocol, the course expands your ability to conceptualize the presentation couples bring to the room.
Although this training is not specific to dissociation with EMDR, it does bring core concepts for grounding and presence in the framework, as well as the use of EMD and assessment of processing readiness, which inherently helps with dissociation.
EMDR with couples is different from individual EMDR because the therapist is working with the relationship system, not just one person’s internal experience. That means tracking the emotional cycle between partners, building safety and co-regulation, and assessing readiness for processing within the couple dynamic
