This intermediate-level EMDR training is designed for licensed mental health professionals who have completed EMDR Basic Training and want to deepen their clinical effectiveness with developmental trauma.
If adult clients struggle with shame, identity confusion, relational instability, or emotional patterns rooted in adolescence, this training will help you recognize and address the adolescent wound within EMDR treatment.
You’ll learn how to conceptualize adolescent trauma through a developmental lens and apply interventions that support integration, regulation, and adaptive processing—while maintaining fidelity to the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model and established EMDR protocol.
This training is not designed for clinicians who have not completed EMDR Basic Training.
Understand how adolescent trauma shapes adult emotional patterns and how to address it within EMDR therapy.
This live, intermediate-level EMDR continuing education training equips clinicians to recognize and treat trauma rooted in adolescence using developmentally informed EMDR conceptualization.
Adolescence is a critical stage for identity formation, emotional regulation, and relational development. When trauma occurs during this period, it can shape long-term patterns of distress that continue into adulthood.
Grounded in the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, this training introduces the Trauma Tree metaphor as a way to conceptualize how developmental trauma influences beliefs, emotions, and behavior.
Recognize how adolescent trauma influences adult symptom patterns
Conceptualize developmental trauma within EMDR treatment planning
Identify negative cognitions connected to adolescent experiences
Apply resourcing strategies that support regulation and adaptive processing
Through lecture, clinical examples, and guided discussion, clinicians will develop practical tools for addressing adolescent trauma within EMDR therapy.

This training equips you with developmentally informed EMDR strategies for recognizing and addressing trauma rooted in adolescence.
Identify how adolescent brain development shapes trauma responses and emotional regulation
Conceptualize adolescent trauma within the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model
Recognize negative cognitions connected to developmental wounds
Use the Trauma Tree framework to map traumatic beliefs and behavioral patterns
Apply resourcing strategies that support regulation and adaptive neural integration
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
• Describe key aspects of adolescent brain development relevant to trauma processing.
• Explain how the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model applies to trauma experienced during adolescence.
• Identify how adolescent trauma contributes to adult emotional and relational patterns.
• Demonstrate how to construct and use a Trauma Tree conceptualization to identify negative cognitions.
• Explain therapeutic techniques that help clinicians determine appropriate areas of focus for resourcing.
• Implement resourcing interventions that support the development of adaptive neural pathways.
This training moves beyond theory into practical clinical integration. You will leave with developmentally informed tools you can apply immediately when adolescent trauma emerges in EMDR sessions.
In practice, you will be able to:
Recognize when adolescent trauma is driving adult emotional or relational patterns
Identify developmental wounds connected to negative cognitions and core beliefs
Use the Trauma Tree framework to conceptualize and access adolescent trauma material
Apply resourcing techniques that strengthen regulation and emotional safety
Facilitate adaptive integration of unresolved adolescent experiences
Live training · 90-day replay access

When trauma rooted in adolescence is recognized and addressed, clinicians can move beyond surface-level symptom treatment and work with the developmental roots of distress.
You’ll learn to recognize how adolescent experiences continue shaping adult emotions, identity, and relational patterns — and how to respond with greater clarity and clinical precision.
You will leave able to:
Recognize adolescent trauma patterns within adult presentations
Conceptualize developmental wounds through an EMDR framework
Identify negative cognitions connected to adolescent experiences
Support regulation and integration when working with developmental trauma
Approach complex trauma cases with greater confidence and attunement
This is not simply about revisiting the past.
It is a structured way of understanding how developmental trauma continues shaping the present — and responding with informed, compassionate clinical care.

Lauren Ogren, PsyD, LMFT
EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist | Adolescent Trauma Specialist | EMDR Trainer
Dr. Lauren Ogren is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist specializing in adolescent trauma and the developmental experiences that shape adult emotional patterns. Her clinical work focuses on helping clients process trauma that emerges during adolescence — a critical developmental period that often influences identity, relationships, and emotional regulation well into adulthood.
Dr. Ogren earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of San Francisco and later completed a Doctorate in Human and Organizational Psychology at Touro University. Her work integrates EMDR therapy with developmentally informed trauma treatment to help clinicians recognize and address the deeper roots of traumatic experience.
In addition to her private practice work, Dr. Ogren serves as a counselor at a school for children with dyslexia, bringing extensive experience supporting adolescents in both clinical and educational settings. Her training emphasizes practical tools clinicians can use to understand how adolescent trauma manifests later in life and how EMDR can help address those underlying developmental wounds.
EMDR & Beyond specializes in advanced, trauma-informed continuing education for EMDR clinicians nationwide.
Train with an EMDRIA-certified therapist specializing in developmental and adolescent trauma.
This agenda reflects a balance of lecture, experiential practice, and clinical integration.
Yes — if you have completed an EMDRIA-approved EMDR Basic Training, this continuing education training is appropriate. The course focuses on understanding how trauma during adolescence can shape adult emotional patterns and teaches practical ways to conceptualize and address those developmental wounds within the EMDR framework.
No. The material in this training is grounded in the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, which underlies standard EMDR protocol. The Trauma Tree framework helps clinicians identify and conceptualize developmental experiences that contribute to current symptoms while maintaining fidelity to EMDR principles.
Yes. This EMDR continuing education training includes lecture, case examples, guided visualization, and dyad practice. Participants will explore techniques for identifying developmental trauma patterns and practice resourcing and conceptualization strategies that can be integrated into clinical work.
This training is designed as an intermediate-level EMDR course for clinicians who have completed EMDR Basic Training. While grounded in foundational EMDR concepts, the course expands clinical understanding of how trauma during adolescence can influence adult functioning and treatment planning.
Yes. The training focuses specifically on how trauma experienced during adolescence can shape adult beliefs, identity, and emotional responses. You will learn how to identify these developmental patterns and integrate that understanding into EMDR case conceptualization and treatment.
The Trauma Tree is a clinical metaphor used to help identify how early and adolescent experiences shape present-day symptoms. Rather than focusing only on visible problems (the branches), the framework helps clinicians explore the deeper developmental roots that influence negative cognitions, emotional responses, and behavioral patterns.
Yes. EMDR & Beyond is an EMDRIA-approved continuing education provider, and this course offers 6 EMDRIA credits. Licensed mental health professionals who meet attendance requirements will receive continuing education credits consistent with EMDRIA standards.
Yes. Registrants receive 90-day access to the event recording after the live training. However, to receive EMDRIA or CE credits for the live training, participants must attend the full live virtual session and meet completion requirements.
Yes. Many clients with adolescent trauma histories experience challenges with emotional regulation, identity development, and relational patterns in adulthood. This training helps clinicians understand how those developmental experiences influence present-day symptoms and how to conceptualize treatment through an EMDR framework.
