Calming the Storm Inside:
Affect Regulation & Grounding For Therapeutic Progress

with Kenya Rocha, LMHC, NCC

This 6-hour specialty workshop, presented by Kenya Rocha, LMHC, NCC, and EMDR Basic Trainer, offers an in-depth exploration of affective regulation and tolerance within a clinical setting. Calming the Storm is designed to equip clinicians with practical tools to enhance therapeutic progress with abuse survivors, clients with complex trauma and with those who have difficulty tolerating and managing affect. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the window of tolerance, including affect fragility and blocking beliefs that hinder the resolution of distressing material.

Through this course, Kenya Rocha will demonstrate techniques to enhance client safety via coregulation and will emphasize the importance of self-care by building clients' resilience. The course will cover the benefits of consistent affect regulation, increased tolerance, and the discharge of traumatic material. Additionally, participants will learn ancillary EMDR-based activities that are applicable across various clinical settings.

Emphasis will be placed on clinician-client attunement, enhancing affective tolerance, and fostering a safe therapeutic environment. Through lectures and hands-on exercises, this program provides a deep understanding of affect regulation and clinical preparedness for working with survivors and takes a look at therapeutic attunement.
